DRAMA CLASS

TAUGHT BY NIA MCWHORTER

KCA offers a wide variety of dramatic opportunities for students of all ages, allowing them to grow in creativity, confidence, communication, and teamwork through performance experiences both on and off the stage.

In the lower school, students participate in skits and dramatic presentations during class chapels throughout the year and are featured in the annual Christmas Musicale each December. These performances help students develop stage presence, speaking skills, creativity, and confidence in a fun and encouraging environment. KCA also offers a Lower School Drama Program that meets after school for an additional fee, giving students even more opportunities to explore acting, storytelling, and performance.

In the upper school, Drama may be taken as a middle or high school class where students study dramatic performance throughout history while gaining an understanding of modern stage terminology, acting techniques, and theatrical production. Students learn and practice the skills necessary to successfully speak and perform in front of an audience, with specific emphasis placed on preparation, projection, articulation, rate of delivery, expression, and confidence.

Upper school students also participate in major productions and performance opportunities throughout the year, including plays, showcases, and special Dinner Theater events that combine live entertainment with a unique audience experience. Students may be involved both on stage and behind the scenes through set design, props, technical production, and stage management.

Drama class includes an after-school performance commitment as part of each student’s grade, helping students develop responsibility, teamwork, and excellence while creating memorable experiences for the entire KCA community.
