Voice of Hope Choir
Our ensemble (now called Voice of Hope) is a “for-credit,” elective class at The King’s Christian Academy that is open to KCA and homeschool students in grades nine through twelve. Admission to this ministering and performing group is by audition only.
Auditions are held in the spring and at the beginning of the school year. Requirements for admission are that the student must:
- exemplify a clear Christian testimony in his/her life;
- demonstrates the ability to sing his or her part on pitch;
- sing in such a way so as to blend his or her voice with the group; and
- learn his or her part quickly.
New members are accepted either as participatory members or as members in training. The goal of “members in training” (M.I.T.s) is to demonstrate the above four requirements as soon as possible within the group rehearsal setting. Once this level is achieved, the director will pass the student on to participatory member. Participatory members will order the concert uniform and sing in all concerts as long as they know the music.
Our Voice of Hope Choir sings at Grandparents’ Day, Parents’ Day, PTF meetings, Baccalaureate, community events (by invitation) and church events/worship services (by invitation). Additionally, the group has its own Christmas and Spring Concerts, which are separate from other school events. Members of Ensemble may be nominated for the Cedarville University Music Showcase, which takes place in February at Cedarville University in Ohio. The 3-day choral workshop, comprised of outstanding high school singers, is designed to strengthen and enhance the students’ voices while providing a fun introduction to university life.
One of the year’s annual highlights is the overnight trip in mid-March to the Association of Christian Schools International Northeast Fine Arts Festival. At the Director’s discretion and according to the ACSI rules, certain students may compete in the Solo and Ensemble categories. The entire group may compete in either the Large Vocal Ensemble or Choir categories. Additionally, a small vocal ensemble may compete.
Students who wish to join “Ensemble” need to contact the Director prior to and as early as possible in the new school year to schedule an audition.
