Track and Field
In the spring, The King’s Christian Academy participates in track and field with both middle and high school teams. Students in grades 6 – 12 are encouraged to participate.
The King’s Christian Academy Track Team burst into the 2012 Track Season in early March primed to repeat as MASCA and MISAL Champions for both the Boys and Girls teams. Coach Bobby Joy and Michael Jefferson ran a disciplined practice regiment. Using grassy hills and an urban setting amidst the school’s campus, the coaches pushed the kids to fulfill their potential — and that they did, completing back-to-back team championships in both the MASCA and MISAL team championship meets.
Newcomer Tyreek Murray led the boy’s team while running track for the first time, leading the boys in anchoring the 4X100 and 4X200 relays to victories several times throughout the season and turning in noteworthy times in the 100M and 200M, with times of 10.8 and 22.8, respectively. Kevin Graham, Cale Benefield, and Aaron McElhenny also turned in stellar performances as a part of the winning 4x100M and 4X200M relays. Kevin won the 100M at MASCA meet.
Montana Joy, Christy Green, and Rebekah Nevala led an undermanned girl’s team into both championships. Montana placed first or second in the 3200M, 1600M, 800M, and Long Jump throughout both meets. Christy turned in a solid performance, winning the 100M, 200M, 400M. Rebekah was the consummate team player jumping into two new events and winning the Long Jump and Shot Put in addition to placing in the 100M and 200M. Though much smaller in size, the team had a great season. Both Montana and Kevin close out stellar careers as seniors, both having won MASCA and ASCI MVP awards during their careers.
