On December 10, KCA took four teams to the First Lego League Southern Maryland Tournament. We had three new teams made up of 4th and 5th graders as well as our middle school team, which had a mix of new students as well as those who were experienced with Lego League robotics. One of our 5th grade teams stayed in 2nd place in the robot run most of the day, but dropped to fifth in the last round. Our middle school team, pictured above, was awarded one of the top awards – the Robot Design Award! Our 4th grade team scored really well overall, but did not place in a particular category. Overall, a lot was learned and much fun was had, but we have more to come. The 7th and 8th grade students will now begin focusing on VEX IQ and gear up for their competitions in January. Later they will focus on the Quadcopter competitions, which will take place in the spring. A few of our very experienced 7th and 8th grade students plan to compete with our high school VEX team, which will have the bulk of its competitions in February. Congratulations again to our middle school team on a job well done at the December tournament!
