David Morris is employed by St. Mary’s County Public Schools. He and his wife Amy are both completing their 28th year of teaching and have been married for 28 years. He graduated from Houghton College in 1988, with a B.S. degree in Physical Education. He holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education and has a Maryland certification in Administration and Supervision PreK-12th. He currently teaches a regional based autism classroom. David serves as an elder at Redeeming Grace Baptist Church, which meets at KCA. He has also served on the KCA board for 16 years. He has three children: (All KCA “lifers”): Abigail, a 2008 KCA graduate; Caleb, a 2011 KCA graduate; and Samuel, a soon to be 2017 KCA graduate.
DEAN EYRES – VICE CHAIR
Dean Eyres has served on the Board since 2006 and as Board Treasurer since July 2007. He has been a KCA board member for eight years, and also serves as Chairman of the Finance Committee and is a member of the Property Development and Audit Committees. Dean has a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Systems and Controls Engineering. He has served in the U.S. Air Force for 12 years and worked in the Defense Industry for 32 years, supporting NAVAIR for the past 14 of those years. Dean and his wife, Jan, met in college and currently serve in several roles at Redeeming Grace Baptist Church. They have two children, both have graduated from KCA. He now has a second generation in his family supporting KCA with his granddaughter, Inara, now attending KCA!
JOHN HARRIS – TREASURER
John Harris has been a KCA board member for 12 years, and has previously served as Chairman, Secretary, and Chairman of the Transportation Committee. He earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University and has worked as a civil servant at the Naval Air Warfare Center for the past 31 years. He currently serves as an Elder, Worship Leader, and Small Group Leader at Faith Bible Church. John and his wife Tita have three children, two who have graduated from KCA and one who currently attends.
JOHN GREEN – SECRETARY
John Green has been working as a Program Manager at the Naval Air System Command since 1999, and retired as a US Navy Captain in 2014 before being hired into Civil Service. He is a 1987 graduate of the US Naval Academy and has a Master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School. John and his wife Shari married in 1989, attend SouthPoint Church, and had all four of their children graduate from KCA between 2009 and 2015. He has been a Board member since 2008.
PETER ALLEN – MEMBER AT-LARGE
Peter Allen is a 2005 graduate of Messiah College with a Bachelors of Science in Engineering and former student at KCA (then Lexington Park Christian School, 1996-1998). He is employed as a Research Engineer for SRI International, a not-for-profit research and development institute. Peter and his wife Julie (Ralon) Allen (KCA 2001 graduate) are celebrating 11 years or marriage and have two children, Annabelle (3rd) and Matthew (1st) at KCA. Peter is an active member and has served as an Elder of BridgeWay Community Church.
BETSY BARRETO - MEMBER-AT-LARGE
Betsy graduated in 1991 from the University of Puerto Rico with a B.A. degree in Business Administration. She's a former student of a private Christian Academy in Puerto Rico, and mother of two KCA Alumni and one KCA student: Natalia graduated in 2012, Cristina graduated in 2016, and Adriana currently attends 2nd grade. Betsy is also KCA’s former Director of Admissions, where she worked for 14 years. She is currently a certified Christian Life Coach working with her husband Jose as Directors of a Christian Life Coaching Training Center in the area of Washington DC. Her husband Jose is also the Pastor at the bilingual (English/Spanish) church Ministerio de Amor en Cristo in Lexington Park, where she leads worship, women's ministry and serves the community.
MICHAEL PATTERSON - MEMBER-AT-LARGE
Mike is the husband of Sarah Patterson, KCA's founding administrator. He has served for 22 years on the KCA board, and provides his expertise in resource development, financial planning, construction management, and campus development. He is chairman of the Board's Property Development committee, and serves on the Board's Finance committee. Mike believes God envisions KCA with 1,000 students in the future. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He worked for the US Navy as a federal employee for 40 years in the development and support of Navy air traffic control and landing systems. He is now retired. He and Sarah have been married for 54 years and have two children. They also have 3 grandchildren, two of whom attend Briarcrest Christian School near Memphis, TN. He is a member of Redeeming Grace Baptist Church.
WALT SMITH - MEMBER-AT-LARGE
Walt Smith is a husband to wife, Brandy and Dad to son, Garrison at KCA (7th). He works on base as a Government program manager for NAVAIR. Walt grew up in Christian schools and joined the Navy. With an enlisted and officer career with the P-3 Orion that spanned 24+ years, Walt transferred here in 2009, and upon retirement in 2014, his family decided to make Southern Maryland their permanent home. Walt is a graduate from the Hawaii campus of Wayland Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, and a Liberty University graduate with a Masters of Science in Management. Walt and his wife are both active in their church, South Point, in the Children's Program and Stephen Ministry Program.
RICHARD TARR - MEMBER-AT-LARGE
Rick is employed as a Program Manager for St. Mary's County Government and has called St. Mary's County home since moving here as a child in 1980. He and his family currently reside in Leonardtown and attend Redeeming Grace Baptist Church at KCA. Rick is a 1988 graduate of Great Mills High School and a 1993 graduate of Frostburg State University with a B.S. degree in Environmental Management. He and his wife Wendy (Moyer) married in 1996 and have two children, Jake and Jordan, who attend KCA. Wendy is employed as an Instructional Supervisor for St. Mary’s County Public Schools and previously taught foreign language part time at KCA. Jake (class of 2017) enjoys the outdoors and will be attending Flagler College. Jordan (class of 2022) enjoys playing lacrosse and spending time with her friends.
BARRY VUKMER – MEMBER AT-LARGE
Barry has been a KCA board member since 2012 and is also a member of the school building committee. Barry was born and raised in St. Mary’s County native and a small business owner. He is a registered Professional Land Surveyor with nearly 30 years of experience in development and construction. He serves on the Local Board of Administration and the building committee at Real Life Wesleyan Church in Mechanicsville, MD. He is married to Denise and they have four children; their youngest a KCA graduate.
KEVIN FRY - ADMINISTRATOR
Prior to coming to The King’s Christian Academy in 2008, Mr. Fry and his family served as missionaries in Guatemala for 10 years serving as Principal of Christian Academy of Guatemala. During this time, he was responsible for overseeing building improvement projects, starting innovative and advanced programs, and adding extracurricular activities. Prior to that, he served as Principal at Columbia Middle School and Vice Principal/Dean of Students at Riverside High School in Oregon. Mr. Fry taught for 4 years before his administrative years and has continued to teach classes and coach as needed. Mr. Fry is the Administrator of The King’s Christian Academy. He is a graduate of George Fox University with a BA in Writing/Literature with 65 graduate credits in School Administration, Curriculum and Language Arts. Mr. Fry and his wife Ardella have five children.
JAMES HARRIS - ASST. ADMINISTRATOR
Mr. Harris is a 1989 graduate of Eastern University with a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education (Math, History). In his career he has taught in South Philadelphia, served as a youth pastor for five years at Quakertown Bible Fellowship in Pennsylvania, as well as worked and lived in Sweden (Gävle and Falun) for eight years at the Internationella Engelska Skolan, a Swedish school with an English profile. He has three children at KCA, Isaiah (9th), Emma (6th), and Grace (2nd).
