PARENTS' DAY PERMISSION FORMS
Next Friday, February 8, we'll hold our annual Parents' Day event in the morning! We'll start with an assembly in the gymnasium, and then release students for lunch. Many families take this opportunity to enjoy lunch off campus. Permission slips were emailed out earlier this week, and students will be bringing home a hard copy as well. Please let us know what your plans are so that we can expedite the check-out process in classrooms.
MILK JUGS/GUITARS/PIANO KEYBOARDS - ALL REQUESTED
We have several requests from our teachers who have a variety of projects going on in their classrooms! Our 1st grade is in need of gallon-sized milk containers (white or clear) for building a large igloo! (See the photo in the In Touch - it looks like a great project!) Mrs. Sobola appreciates receiving your rinsed out containers so that she and her class can complete this awesome class project. Mr. Gardiner, our music teacher, is in search of more guitars and keyboards for his 6th grade music class. If you have an extra that's no longer being used in your home, please consider donating it to KCA's music program.
LEO CLUB - SEEKING BABY ITEM DONATIONS
Our high school Leo Club is supporting BirthRight of Prince Frederick by collecting new baby items. They are seeking diapers (newborn to size 3), formula, baby lotions/shampoo, blankets, and other necessities. All donations can be dropped off at the front desk. We appreciate your help!
SPELLING BEE PARTICIPANTS WANTED
If you have a 6th, 7th, or 8th grader who loves to spell, please consider having them participate in KCA's Spelling Bee on February 15! Participants can sign up at the front desk and must be available to participate at the 6 p.m. event. The winner of this Bee will go directly to the Annapolis state competition. We currently have a handful of students signed up, but would love to see many more participate!
ADMISSIONS OPEN HOUSE - NEXT TUESDAY
If you know a family who is interested in learning more about KCA, please let them know about our Admissions Open House next Tuesday, February 5. This is a drop-in event for families who would like to take a tour of the school, meet with teachers and review our curriculum. We'll be on campus from 4 - 6 p.m. and look forward to meeting prospective families for the 2019-2020 school year!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let us know by calling our front desk at 301-994-3080.
Dear KCA families,
I hope your students are having a great time with Spirit Week! We're leading up to an exciting Friday with our annual homecoming festivities and game. If you can join us for the homecoming game, we'd love to have a big crowd cheering on our Eagle athletes!
Here are a few highlights from this week's In Touch (pasted below):
* Lower School Report Cards - Home Today
Report cards for our lower school students will be coming home in Golden Envelopes today. Please take a moment to sign the envelope and return it to your child's teacher. Upper school report cards will be sent home next week.
* Auction Donation Drop-Off - This Saturday
We'll be holding our first auction donation drop-off day this Saturday, January 26, from 10 a.m to noon. If you have a new or gently used item you're willing to donate, we'll be here to accept it! Tax donation receipts will be available as well. Our main office will be open, and we'll be on the lookout for anyone stopping by! Please come through the front office entrance and let us know if you need help unloading. If you're unable to make this Saturday's drop-off and have an item to donate, please contact Heather Waller at email@example.com to arrange a time.
* Box Top Contest - Underway Again!
We're collecting Box Tops in the front office! Each top is worth .10 to KCA, so they do add up quickly. Thank you for labeling your bags with your child's name, grade and homeroom teacher. We're looking forward to another fun class contest!
* Parents' Day - February 8
We have a fun morning in the works for our families on Friday, February 8! Please join us for an assembly that will begin at 9 a.m. Afterward, you're welcome to take your student out to lunch. Please have your student back on campus by 1 p.m. for afternoon classes.
If you have any questions about this week's happenings, please don't hesitate to give us a call at 301-994-3080.
Dear KCA families,
Thanks to all who attended our Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A last evening! If your child received a non-uniform pass, please remember it is good for tomorrow, January 17.
This week marks the end of our 2nd quarter and the half way point for our school year! Due to Monday's snow day and the shortened schedule yesterday, mid-term exams for upper school students have been pushed out through January 22.
NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY
No classes will be in session on Monday, January 21 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Next week, we'll have a Spirit Week that ends with a pep rally and homecoming game! Please see the attached In Touch newsletter for the "what to wear" schedule. This is a fun time intended to bring out student creativity and rally everyone for the basketball game at the end of the week. If your student does not wish to participate in a particular spirit dress day, please have him or her wear their normal uniform of khaki bottoms and a KCA polo. If you have any questions regarding what to wear, please connect with your child's teacher.
TREE PLANTING FOR MADDIE CURAN
This Friday, January 18, we will be planting a tree in memory of Maddie Curan, a beloved 6th grade student who passed away last May. Permission forms will be sent home tomorrow to release students from class for this 11 a.m. event. If your child wishes to attend, please complete the permission form and send it back in with your student. Parents are welcome!
PARENTS' DAY - FEB. 8
Please mark your calendar for our Parents' Day event on February 8! We've chosen a main CWS day in hopes that more family members will be able to attend. Enjoy a fun assembly in the morning and then take your child out to lunch afterward! Students will need to be back in classrooms by 1 p.m. for afternoon instruction. More details will be coming home soon!
Dear KCA families,
Now that we are officially back from our Christmas break, we're closing in on the end of the second quarter. We had a great Admissions Open House last evening with 14 new families joining us for tours of the campus! Many were referred to us by you, our current families, as well as KCA alumni. Thank you for taking the time to share our school with your friends and neighbors!
I've posted the In Touch newsletter below, however there are a couple of items that I'd like to highlight for you:
CHICK-FIL-A SPIRIT NIGHT - JAN. 15
Next Tuesday, January 15, we'll be hosting a Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A. We appreciate your joining us for a delicious evening that supports KCA! Please remember to stop in to pick up a non-uniform pass for your student(s).
LUNCH ACCOUNT INFO
Recently, there was a glitch with our lunch ordering system where accounts were not being charged. This has now been fixed, so you may see a drop in funds as we process any recent orders your child may have had. Please contact Mrs. Nia McWhorter via email at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
DUAL ENROLLMENT FORMS - DUE FRIDAY
Students in select honors and AP classes received forms yesterday to enroll in our Dual Enrollment program with Cairn University. If you would like to take advantage of this program, please fill out the forms and submit them to the front office by this Friday, January 11. I've also placed the forms online under our dual enrollment link if you need another print out.
There's limited space available for our upcoming drum clinic with Somar Drummers for students ages 10 - 15. If you would like more information on enrolling, please contact Mr. Kevin Gardiner at email@example.com.
KCA is switching to a new way of enrolling students! We'll be starting continuous enrollment to streamline the way families register - and stay registered - with KCA. Please stay tuned for more information coming from our admissions office in the near future!
Dear KCA families,
Happy Thanksgiving week! I won't be sending an In Touch newsletter home today, but there are few important events I'd like to share with you:

If you don't have a Scrip account, but would like to start one in order to take advantage of these great deals, please email Heather Waller at firstname.lastname@example.org
GIVING TUESDAY AT KCA
November 27 is #GivingTuesday! This year, in lieu of our Phone-a-Thon, KCA will be participating in Giving Tuesday as a way of providing our donors with new ways to help fund KCA's programs. We hope that all of our families will consider being a part of this great event by sharing the link - http://igfn.us/vf/KCAEAGLES - with their extended family and friends.
DECEMBER 4 - ADMISSIONS OPEN HOUSE
On December 4 from 4- - 6 p.m., KCA will host its first Admissions Open House of the school year. This is an opportunity for prospective families who are interested in learning more about KCA to tour our campus, meet our teachers, and review the curriculum. If you know of a family that has been considering our school, please let them know about this event! More information will be posted after we return from Thanksgiving break.
I hope each of you have a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving. Safe travels to all who will be on the road to visit loved ones, and we look forward to seeing you back on campus on Monday, November 26.
Dear KCA families,
We are quickly approaching Thanksgiving week, and that means that our schedule adjusts as well. While the In Touch (below) captures many of the events, here are some important highlights to be aware of:
Spirit Night at Olde Town Pub
The MacDonald family is hosting a Spirit Night tomorrow evening, November 15, from 4 – 9 p.m. at their restaurant in Leonardtown. If you’ve never been to the Olde Towne Pub, it offers a great variety of food, including pizzas, flatbread sandwiches, burgers, salads and their famous chicken wings. Whether you dine in or take a dinner to go, non-uniform passes will be available inside! A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to benefit the senior class trip.
Next Week’s Schedule
During Thanksgiving week, KCA is open on both Monday and Tuesday. Please note that if you have a 6th – 12th grade student, school will run on a Monday schedule both days. On Tuesday, however, students will have their normal Tuesday elective. Lower school students will not be affected by the schedule change.
No School – November 21 – 23
In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, we will be off on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
If you purchase Scrip cards, now is the time to stock up! During this 24-hour sale, you can get incredible bonus rebates on Scrip cards from a variety of retailers. ThankScriping will happen on Tuesday, November 20. If you don’t have a Scrip account and would like one, please contact Heather Waller at email@example.com to get set up for this exciting shopping opportunity!
KCA will be participating in the global day of giving this year! Giving Tuesday is a great way for people to give back in a way that is meaningful for them. On November 27, join KCA for #GivingTuesday. More information will be posted soon!
If you have a 6th – 8th grade student who enjoys spelling and has an interest in participating in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, please join us on Thursdays after school! More information is in this week’s In Touch.
Lunch Order Forms
Due to the short week, we are including a two-sided form for next week’s lunch order form that includes November 26 – 30. If you would like to order lunch for your Pre-K – 8th grader, please ensure that you fill out both sides and send them back by this Friday.
Fall Drama – Dinner Theater this Friday!
Come out this Friday and enjoy four student-directed Hans Christian Andersen tales! Tickets are available at the front desk and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there!
Middle School Science Fair
On Friday afternoon, all middle school science projects will be on display in the Commons from 4- 6 p.m. This is a great opportunity for your student to show off their efforts while appreciating other projects! Teachers are asking that families take home their projects on Friday evening, if possible.
As always, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach our front desk by calling 301-994-3080.
Dear KCA families,
I hope you're having a great week! We are looking forward to a hosting our 6th annual Community Carnival & Craft/Vendor Fair this Saturday. I'm writing to ask for volunteers in three areas:
COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID SEMINAR
Tonight, we're hosting a great financial aid seminar for 11th and 12th grade students and parents! The event will run between 6 - 8 p.m. If you have a child in those grades, please consider attending as some very valuable information will be shared!
NO SCHOOL MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12
We'll be closed next Monday in honor of Veterans' Day.
BOX TOP CONTEST
Next week is the FINAL week of our fall Box Top contest! As you can see from our In Touch newsletter below, we've listed two prizes - one for our 6th - 12th graders and another for our Pre-K through 5th graders. The winning class in each category will receive a prize. Our lower school students are competing for their choice of a pizza party or non-uniform pass. Students in the winning upper school class will receive a non-uniform pass. In our lower school, 3rd and 5th graders are neck and neck! In our upper school, Mrs. Riedell's 6th grade and the 10th grade are just 3 tops away from each other. If you have any Box Tops at home, now would be a great time to send them in! (See the graphic below.)
MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE FAIR
Our middle school science fair is rapidly approaching! If you have a 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student, he or she should be busy both researching and experimenting. Please don't hesitate to connect with your child's teachers if you have any questions about what's required for this event.
H.O.P.E. THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE
We're still collecting non-perishable items in each classroom! If your family would like to participate, please have your student bring in their cans and pantry items to their homeroom. We're looking forward to blessing many local families during Thanksgiving!
KCA DINNER THEATER
Once again, our students are directing the fall drama! This year, four student directors have taken on The Tales of Hans Christian Andersen. Tickets for the event are now available at the front desk. If purchased before November 12, dinner and the performance are $12. Afterward, the price rises to $15. If you'd prefer just to enjoy dessert and the show, tickets are $5 each. Thank you for coming out to support our drama students! All proceeds from the event will go toward sponsoring our Junior/Senior Banquet in May.
Dear KCA families,
I hope you're having a great week! If you can believe it, we've officially entered the second quarter of our 2018-19 school year. Report cards for lower school will be sent home in today's Golden Envelopes. Upper school report cards will go home with students on Friday. If you log into RenWeb, you can see your child's final grades and teachers' comments for the first quarter. Once you're in the parent portal, click on Student Information on the left-hand column. Then, click on "Grades" in the same menu. Finally, select the "Report Card" tab in the center menu. If you have any questions about using RenWeb, please don't hesitate to let us know!
CARNIVAL & CRAFT/VENDOR FAIR - THIS WEEKEND!
We hope that you'll be able to attend our AMAZING event this weekend! We'll begin at 12 p.m. and run until 6 p.m. This event is open to the community and admission is FREE! Tickets are $1 each, and most rides and attractions are between 1 and 3 tickets. Our carnival games will be stocked with some amazing prizes and we have some incredible food planned for the day. (Check out our In Touch for a list of what's coming!) Thank you for sharing this event on social media with your friends and neighbors, as this is a great community awareness event for KCA. We are still in need of some volunteers for the day of the event to ensure all of our games are covered! If you have some time on Saturday and would like to take tickets or hand out prizes, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
PICTURE RE-TAKE & CLASS PHOTO DAY - THIS FRIDAYI
If you would like your child to retake his or her individual student portrait, please call Barbara Mashtare at 301-994-3080. This ensures that we know to call your student out of class to re-do their photos.
DRESS CODE FOR CLASS PICTURES
Instead of a casual Friday dress, we are asking all students to wear their REGULAR UNIFORM this Friday. Please send your child to school wearing khaki bottoms and a KCA polo shirt. This helps ensure that our class photos look unified.
BOX TOP CONTEST UPDATE
We're getting close! Several of our grades are now well on their way to reaching the 700 Tops Goal!
MOMS IN PRAYER
Our Moms in Prayer group is looking for additional volunteers to meet on Mondays and pray for both staff and students. I've added information about this group to this week's In Touch newsletter (below). Parents who participate in this weekly group receive volunteer hours for their time.
ELEMENTARY DRAMA PROGRAM - BEGINS NOVEMBER 14
Do you have a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade student who is interested in theater? We're sending home a flyer today for our lower school drama program! As it has in previous years, this group meets after school on Mondays and Wednesdays until 5 p.m. Students will learn theater techniques and have multiple performance opportunities throughout the school year. If you have questions please email Mrs. McWhorter via email at email@example.com.
As always, thank you for reading through our In Touch newsletter below!
