Dear KCA families,
Last night, we hosted another awesome open house event for prospective parents. This time, we had 16 new families come to explore our campus! Public enrollment is now open, and we certainly appreciate your referrals.
NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY
This Friday, March 8, is a professional day for our staff and faculty. No classes will be in session.
HIGH SCHOOL LOCK-IN
The date of our high school lock-in has changed from March 8 to March 7. The event will run from 7 p.m. on Thursday to 7 a.m. on Friday morning. For $15, students will enjoy a variety of activities and games throughout the night. Dinner and breakfast is included!
CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS’ VARSITY BASKETBALL
Our girls’ varsity team has captured the state title! I’ve posted a picture of the team shortly after their final game on our Facebook page and look forward to sharing more images in our June edition of The Eagle magazine. We are so proud of their accomplishments!
ANNE OF GREEN GABLES – DRAMA PRODUCTION
Our upper school students have been hard at work preparing for their spring drama, Anne of Green Gables. Tickets will go on sale in the near future. The production will begin at 6:30 p.m. on both March 21 and 22 and 2:30 p.m. on March 23. Advance tickets for the show will be $10 for adults and $5 for students. If you purchase tickets at the door, they are an additional $2.
AUCTION DONATION DROP-OFF – THIS SATURDAY
We’re holding one of our final drop-off days this weekend from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. If you have a new or gently used item that you’d like to donate to KCA, please let us know. If you are unable to make it this Saturday and would like to arrange a drop-off/pick-up time, please email Heather Waller at firstname.lastname@example.org. Additionally, thank you for supporting our room moms as they work to prepare class baskets!
Dear KCA families,
I’m sending out our regular Eagle Notes email today in anticipation of tomorrow’s forecast. Currently, it appears that we may get some snow in the morning, which will turn into a wintry mix and end with rain in the afternoon. Please keep an eye on St. Mary’s Public School’s website (www.smcps.org) for updates. Temperatures looks like they may rise in the afternoon, so our plan to hold Parent/Teacher conferences on Thursday should be fine. We will send out an email/text alert if something changes.
Enrollment is open for current students! This is the perfect time to re-enroll your child – or add a sibling. The last day to opt-out is February 28. If we haven’t heard from you by then, your account will be billed at $85 per student on March 1. We’ll open enrollment to the public on March 4. If you have questions about the enrollment process, please don’t hesitate to ask. You can reach Mrs. Barbara Mashtare via email at: email@example.com.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES – THURSDAY
Upper school teachers will be available from 12:30 – 6 p.m. in the high school commons for 7th– 12th grade families who wish to meet. Lower school conferences are held by appointment only in classrooms. Please connect with your child’s teacher if you need to schedule or confirm a time.
Please note: THURSDAY, FEB. 21
Pre-K – 6th– NO SCHOOL

AUCTION DONATION DROP-OFF THIS SATURDAY
We’ll be holding another drop-off event this Saturday in our main office! If you have an item that you’ve been considering donating, please bring it by the school between 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. We’ll be on hand to accept it and can provide you with a tax deductible receipt. Thank you in advance for your support!
SPELLING BEE –CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to the five contestants in our middle school spelling Bee! Violet D’Lima, Bella Owens, Jason Chen, Charlynne Lowe and Matthew Tigrett learned hundreds of words to prepare for this event. After 30 rounds of spelling words, Matthew Tigrett took first place and Charlynne Lowe was the runner up. Some of the most difficult words these students attempted included“tergiversation” and “felicitously”. Both Matthew and Charlynne will move on to the regional event in Baltimore on March 23.
DATES TO KEEP IN MIND:
Lower School Science Fair – March 1
Admissions Open House – March 5
Professional Day – March 8 – No School
Spring Drama Production (Anne of Green Gables) – March 21 - 23
As always, if you have any questions about what's happening on campus, please don't hesitate to give our front office a call at 301-994-3080.
Dear KCA families,
Last evening's Admissions Open House event was a success! Nearly 20 families - with prospective students in nearly every grade - dropped by to tour our campus and learn more about what we had to offer. Thank you for continuing to share KCA with your friends and neighbors!
This Friday, we're honoring our parents! Thank you for all that you do for KCA and your students. It is truly appreciated! We are looking forward to a great assembly on Friday morning at 9 a.m. and hope that many of you are able to join us. (While you're on campus, please take a moment to check the lost and found in the multipurpose room. We have many items that need to find their way back home!)
LUNCH ORDER FORMS
To allow our parent volunteers the opportunity to enjoy the assembly, please have all lunch order forms back by Thursday.
NO HOT LUNCH ON FRIDAY
As many students will be leaving campus for lunch, this is just a reminder that we will not be serving anything this Friday. Thank you for sending a lunch with your student if you don't plan to take them out to eat. We have opened our RenWeb lunch ordering system through May! If you'd like to plan ahead, you're welcome to order on line through the remainder of the school year!
BLUE & WHITE SPIRIT DAY ON MONDAY!
As you'll see from our In Touch newsletter, we'll hold our Senior Night and final home games of the season. Students in all grades are encouraged to wear blue and white to show their school spirit! No uniform items are required if students participate.
VALENTINE'S BALLOON GRAMS
Each year, KCA's student council holds a Valentine's Day fundraiser. The tradition includes Valentine's Day balloons, which are hung on lockers (upper school) or attached to students' chairs in the lower school classrooms. Not only does it make our classrooms and hallways look festive, but it brings a lot of joy to the recipients! In the near future, we'll be emailing home a Valentine's Day gram form. If you would like to send one to your student, please include his or her name, grade, and locker number (if applicable) and add your special message. Each gram is $5, and both the form and money can be returned to the front office. The funds raised from this event will go directly toward purchasing additional closed circuit television screens for the hallways. These screens allow us to share upcoming KCA information and events with students, staff, and our parent visitors.
AUCTION DROP-OFF - THIS SATURDAY
If you have an item to donate to our auction on March 30, we'll be collecting again this Saturday! Drop by between 10 a.m. and noon with your donation and we'll make sure you have a tax receipt for your files.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to give us a call at 301-994-3080.
PARENTS' DAY PERMISSION FORMS
Next Friday, February 8, we'll hold our annual Parents' Day event in the morning! We'll start with an assembly in the gymnasium, and then release students for lunch. Many families take this opportunity to enjoy lunch off campus. Permission slips were emailed out earlier this week, and students will be bringing home a hard copy as well. Please let us know what your plans are so that we can expedite the check-out process in classrooms.
MILK JUGS/GUITARS/PIANO KEYBOARDS - ALL REQUESTED
We have several requests from our teachers who have a variety of projects going on in their classrooms! Our 1st grade is in need of gallon-sized milk containers (white or clear) for building a large igloo! (See the photo in the In Touch - it looks like a great project!) Mrs. Sobola appreciates receiving your rinsed out containers so that she and her class can complete this awesome class project. Mr. Gardiner, our music teacher, is in search of more guitars and keyboards for his 6th grade music class. If you have an extra that's no longer being used in your home, please consider donating it to KCA's music program.
LEO CLUB - SEEKING BABY ITEM DONATIONS
Our high school Leo Club is supporting BirthRight of Prince Frederick by collecting new baby items. They are seeking diapers (newborn to size 3), formula, baby lotions/shampoo, blankets, and other necessities. All donations can be dropped off at the front desk. We appreciate your help!
SPELLING BEE PARTICIPANTS WANTED
If you have a 6th, 7th, or 8th grader who loves to spell, please consider having them participate in KCA's Spelling Bee on February 15! Participants can sign up at the front desk and must be available to participate at the 6 p.m. event. The winner of this Bee will go directly to the Annapolis state competition. We currently have a handful of students signed up, but would love to see many more participate!
ADMISSIONS OPEN HOUSE - NEXT TUESDAY
If you know a family who is interested in learning more about KCA, please let them know about our Admissions Open House next Tuesday, February 5. This is a drop-in event for families who would like to take a tour of the school, meet with teachers and review our curriculum. We'll be on campus from 4 - 6 p.m. and look forward to meeting prospective families for the 2019-2020 school year!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let us know by calling our front desk at 301-994-3080.
Dear KCA families,
I hope your students are having a great time with Spirit Week! We're leading up to an exciting Friday with our annual homecoming festivities and game. If you can join us for the homecoming game, we'd love to have a big crowd cheering on our Eagle athletes!
Here are a few highlights from this week's In Touch (pasted below):

* Auction Donation Drop-Off - This Saturday
We'll be holding our first auction donation drop-off day this Saturday, January 26, from 10 a.m to noon. If you have a new or gently used item you're willing to donate, we'll be here to accept it! Tax donation receipts will be available as well. Our main office will be open, and we'll be on the lookout for anyone stopping by! Please come through the front office entrance and let us know if you need help unloading. If you're unable to make this Saturday's drop-off and have an item to donate, please contact Heather Waller at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a time.
* Box Top Contest - Underway Again!
We're collecting Box Tops in the front office! Each top is worth .10 to KCA, so they do add up quickly. Thank you for labeling your bags with your child's name, grade and homeroom teacher. We're looking forward to another fun class contest!
* Parents' Day - February 8
We have a fun morning in the works for our families on Friday, February 8! Please join us for an assembly that will begin at 9 a.m. Afterward, you're welcome to take your student out to lunch. Please have your student back on campus by 1 p.m. for afternoon classes.
If you have any questions about this week's happenings, please don't hesitate to give us a call at 301-994-3080.
Dear KCA families,
Thanks to all who attended our Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A last evening! If your child received a non-uniform pass, please remember it is good for tomorrow, January 17.
This week marks the end of our 2nd quarter and the half way point for our school year! Due to Monday's snow day and the shortened schedule yesterday, mid-term exams for upper school students have been pushed out through January 22.
NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY
No classes will be in session on Monday, January 21 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Next week, we'll have a Spirit Week that ends with a pep rally and homecoming game! Please see the attached In Touch newsletter for the "what to wear" schedule. This is a fun time intended to bring out student creativity and rally everyone for the basketball game at the end of the week. If your student does not wish to participate in a particular spirit dress day, please have him or her wear their normal uniform of khaki bottoms and a KCA polo. If you have any questions regarding what to wear, please connect with your child's teacher.
TREE PLANTING FOR MADDIE CURAN
This Friday, January 18, we will be planting a tree in memory of Maddie Curan, a beloved 6th grade student who passed away last May. Permission forms will be sent home tomorrow to release students from class for this 11 a.m. event. If your child wishes to attend, please complete the permission form and send it back in with your student. Parents are welcome!
PARENTS' DAY - FEB. 8
Please mark your calendar for our Parents' Day event on February 8! We've chosen a main CWS day in hopes that more family members will be able to attend. Enjoy a fun assembly in the morning and then take your child out to lunch afterward! Students will need to be back in classrooms by 1 p.m. for afternoon instruction. More details will be coming home soon!
Dear KCA families,
Now that we are officially back from our Christmas break, we're closing in on the end of the second quarter. We had a great Admissions Open House last evening with 14 new families joining us for tours of the campus! Many were referred to us by you, our current families, as well as KCA alumni. Thank you for taking the time to share our school with your friends and neighbors!
I've posted the In Touch newsletter below, however there are a couple of items that I'd like to highlight for you:
CHICK-FIL-A SPIRIT NIGHT - JAN. 15
Next Tuesday, January 15, we'll be hosting a Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A. We appreciate your joining us for a delicious evening that supports KCA! Please remember to stop in to pick up a non-uniform pass for your student(s).
LUNCH ACCOUNT INFO
Recently, there was a glitch with our lunch ordering system where accounts were not being charged. This has now been fixed, so you may see a drop in funds as we process any recent orders your child may have had. Please contact Mrs. Nia McWhorter via email at email@example.com with any questions.
DUAL ENROLLMENT FORMS - DUE FRIDAY
Students in select honors and AP classes received forms yesterday to enroll in our Dual Enrollment program with Cairn University. If you would like to take advantage of this program, please fill out the forms and submit them to the front office by this Friday, January 11. I've also placed the forms online under our dual enrollment link if you need another print out.
There's limited space available for our upcoming drum clinic with Somar Drummers for students ages 10 - 15. If you would like more information on enrolling, please contact Mr. Kevin Gardiner at firstname.lastname@example.org.
KCA is switching to a new way of enrolling students! We'll be starting continuous enrollment to streamline the way families register - and stay registered - with KCA. Please stay tuned for more information coming from our admissions office in the near future!
Dear KCA families,
Happy Thanksgiving week! I won't be sending an In Touch newsletter home today, but there are few important events I'd like to share with you:
Do you want to purchase KCA Scrip cards with MAJOR rebates? Today is Thank-Scrip-ing Day, and the chance to stock up on your ScripNow and Reload cards! If you don't have a Scrip account, but would like to start one in order to take advantage of these great deals, please email Heather Waller at email@example.com
GIVING TUESDAY AT KCA
November 27 is #GivingTuesday! This year, in lieu of our Phone-a-Thon, KCA will be participating in Giving Tuesday as a way of providing our donors with new ways to help fund KCA's programs. We hope that all of our families will consider being a part of this great event by sharing the link - http://igfn.us/vf/KCAEAGLES - with their extended family and friends.
DECEMBER 4 - ADMISSIONS OPEN HOUSE
On December 4 from 4- - 6 p.m., KCA will host its first Admissions Open House of the school year. This is an opportunity for prospective families who are interested in learning more about KCA to tour our campus, meet our teachers, and review the curriculum. If you know of a family that has been considering our school, please let them know about this event! More information will be posted after we return from Thanksgiving break.
I hope each of you have a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving. Safe travels to all who will be on the road to visit loved ones, and we look forward to seeing you back on campus on Monday, November 26.
